Point B Design getting the recognition they deserve

John and Tom over at Point B Design and Fabrication have been hard at work since I left them.  Their project D Bridge has received recognition by the AIA!  Congrats guys!

Point B Design 2015 AIA TAP Innovation Award | Exemplary use in a Small Firm Award Recipient The D-Bridge is a single-story, single-room, 1200SF building enclosing a path between an existing residence and an Art Gallery. The building is a thickened shell with canted glazing and six door openings—it is environmentally controlled, and it provides both a programmatic link between living and gallery spaces and a series of smaller, more intimate porch-like spaces around the boundaries of the buildings. The doubly curved flexure shell is structurally rationalized into 1000+ sheet metal voxels that act as the design DNA for all other elements.

Its really great to see a project such as this one go through the full design process and conclude in an innovative and build-able product.  When working at their office during the concept stage of he project, I was tasked with making study models of the bridge to understand where enclosure should be and where supports should touch down.  After leaving the office and not seeing the project for a while, it is great to see the progress that was made and the conclusions they came to.  The future is looking bright for Point B!
