Z-Table
A table designed for the Women of Change shelter in Center City Philadelphia
This table was designed to be made on a shoestring budget, to be durable, and to be easily cleaned. These parameters became the driving forces behind the design. Each women at the shelter has a sleeping POD that is their own space, where they keep all their belongings, a place they call home. Due to the unfortunate nature of the ladies stay, designs that don't allow the women to hide any items are important because they help keep the shelter a safe and drug free place. There have also been issues with bedbugs in the past so materials that prevent them from hanging around are important. Also, by simply varying the pattern of perforation on the table, we are able to create many versions of the same piece, allowing the women to have something that feels more their own without sacrificing cost or performance. The Z-table utilizes bends to gain its form and structure, simplifying the manufacturing process.
